I have created extension Images Embedder which breaks image links and embeds
the image
files without any conversion.

It is a rather simple code in Basic using the API. I separated the cases for
Writer,
Calc, and Draw/Impress.
This issue could be resolved with a similar solution, I wish it will be done in
a
next release of OpenOffice.org.
