B commented on ZOOKEEPER-3820:
------------------------------

If the generated files are not going to be included anymore, the instructions
to build the C client should be updated:
[https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf?p=zookeeper.git;a=blob;f=zookeeper-client/zookeeper-client-c/README;h=ade5ad98fa128eca3a67bc7dab9bb74fec775a28;hb=HEAD#l35]

Right now they claim that the release tarballs include the generated files + a
configure script, but neither of those exist, and building the C client
requires java & mvn.

As a complete outsider, my 2c: If I can't built the C client in a small docker
image using just the recent tarballs, I'm just going to stick to using releases
3.5.6 and older.
