1.  NOMINATIONS FOR AAPT OFFICES AND COMMITTEES

The AAPT Nominations Committee is seeking nominations, including
self-nominations, for the AAPT offices of Vice-President, Secretary,
Two-Year College Representative, and all AAPT Area Committees.  The
members elected will take office in January 2003.  Nominations should be
sent to Chair Karen Bouffard by December 4, 2001, to be considered at the
2002 Winter Meeting of the Nominations Committee. The nomination form is
available in the Announcer and online at

2.  VOLUNTEER STUDENT COORDINATORS AT THE 124th AAPT NATIONAL MEETING

The AAPT is looking for college students with an interest in physics to
volunteer at the National Meeting in Philadelphia. In exchange for being a
Volunteer Student Coordinator, students will receive: free one-year
membership to AAPT, and free admission to the 124th National Meeting.

3.   NEW GRANT TO IMPROVE THE PREPARATION OF PHYSICS TEACHERS 

The American Physical Society (APS), the American Association of Physics
Teachers (AAPT), and the American Institute of Physics (AIP) have received
grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Fund for the
Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE) for a program to improve
the preparation of K-12 physics and physical science teachers.  For more

4. NEW WEB SITE FOR STUDENTS PLANNING GRADUATE STUDY IN PHYSICS

As a service to our members, AAPT would like you to be aware of a website
designed to be a searchable online directory for researching graduate
programs in the physical sciences, engineering and related fields. The
site also provides other useful resources for students and academics.  For
