Yes, that was definitely the path I was hoping to take. But the issue
here is not gnus (which would only be accessing the maildirs via
dovecot), but dovecot itself. I was hoping to access an entire recursive
structure of accounts and mailboxes via single invocation of dovecot.

Perhaps I'm just on the wrong mailing list :)
