Hi, I just discovered that mbsync links to Berkeley DB, which—because of the GPL3 license and my employer's policy means I can't use mbsync at work. But I truly can't live without mbsync! Its “competitors” are all inferior and completely inadequate.
A look at the source code makes it look like it was written to work without Berkeley DB, and by slightly hacking configure.ac I was even able to build it that way. What effect should I expect my hack to have on the performance or functionality of mbsync? Is there any chance Berkeley DB can be replaced with a more favorably licensed component?
