Correction from my side - if I don't run two mbsync processes in
parallel (duh!) it actually takes a long time outside of emacs, too.
I just started splitting my 1.3 million mails folder into smaller chunks
(20-150k) and that seems to improve the situation quite well.

these are an expected effect of certain (questionable) mail access
