the thing is that this isn't a message id, but a message length. if
the server has a somewhat idiosyncratic interpretation of what
constitutes a "command line", it may count the payload towards it.
that would mean that you just can't upload a message of that size to
that server.
You were right: deleting some large attachments made it work. That has
to be up there with "PC LOAD LETTER" in the pantheon of unhelpful error
messages.
