I wanted to configure 'maildir' type of accounts in Evolution, but it

whether shared folders with evolution work, depends on if/how evo changes the file names, and whether it gets along with mbsync's modifications. using AltMap may be necessary.

which SubFolders option works best depends on the mua - how it displays "hidden" folders and the fs hierarchy. plain mutt doesn't work very well with subfolders at all, because one needs to use the descend-directory command to navigate instead of opening the higher-level box itself, and one doesn't see directly what is contained (though enabling the sidebar may help; didn't try). dunno about neomutt.
