I'll be blunt and just say I need to swap all this C code out of my head
and go back to $WORK right now. I hope my bug report was helpful even
without the fix though. ;)

And, in a way, going through this allowed me to find the evil message
and now I can just delete (or fix it) to recover too, so that's great.
