MaxPushedUID (or possibly both).
Should I try blasting the sync state files and re-syncing? Is that safe?
you mean _just_ the state files?
it's safe, but not recommended, as you'll get duplicates of just about
every mail. you can eliminate them easily using f.ex. mutt, but it's a
tad wasteful.
resetting the max uids in the state files is a better idea.
