Now for Ubuntu I know I had to mess around SASL and even build
moriyoshi/cyrus-sasl-xoauth2.git manually to make things work,
but this doesn't look like an issue with that.
but it totally does. it's clearly not even trying to use oauth. it must
be something with that plugin, but i have no clue beyond that.
google whether you can enable some sasl debugging via env vars or config
files.
beyond that, i guess i'd strace it and see if it does anything
unexpected. compare with a trace from the working box maybe.
