Description The successful Systems Engineer will have significant experience with high load, high traffic web environments. You are able to monitor, optimize and expand the database, web, batch & mail pools and queries in order to keep the cluster fast & scalable. Background: The Site Ops team is responsible for 24/7/365 monitoring and incident response for the group's web properties in over 20 countries and 750 cities. The clusters consist of 1200+ servers spread out over multiple data centers. We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer with very good Linux administration skills. To support the ongoing operations we need a talented Linux Engineer to support the administration, optimization (performance tuning) & expansion of the platform. You will work in a team of Linux & Database Administrators, Network Engineers and Data Center technicians. Primary Job Responsibilities: Participate as a member of the Site Operations team responsible for operationally excellent management and operation of the Marktplaats servers required to keep web properties running in a 24x7x365 environment. Build, maintain and upgrade Linux systems (web servers & databases). Administer current applications and environments for all platforms. Learn about these sites, their changing requirements, and contribute to their success. Assess systems utilization to assist in troubleshooting and performance tuning. Highly capable of shell & Perl scripting to automate repetitious tasks and provide documentation and training on how to use these scripts. Work closely with developers, product managers, development managers, and marketing to understand requirements and propose creative and timely solutions. Requirements: 6+ years of hands-on experience in Databases (MySQL, Oracle), Systems (LINUX) and Networking technologies. Proven problem solving track record focused on quick outage restore, root cause analysis technologies. Strong LINUX administration skills. Hands on Apache & Tomcat optimization, performance tuning experience. Understanding of DNS, NFS, TCP/IP and other protocols. Experience in VERITAS Volume Manager and Cluster Server. Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to peers and management.
