Description: Must have good understanding of information systems with a specific focus on data modeling techniques and be able to communicate knowledge of same to co-workers effectively. Must be adaptable to change and able to interact with co-workers and customers in a positive manner, as well as communicate in an effective manner. 1. Requirements Gathering: Participate and / or performs a lead role in the gathering, review, interpretation of functional requirements and translate these into IT requirements. Develops and manages relationships with the business and technical users/liaisons to ensure strategic use of the institutions data assets. Provide problem solving expertise including the formulation and testing of hypothesis, and the complex analysis of data. 2. Data Model Development: Uses industry standard data modeling tools, best practices and techniques including UML to design and develop relational data models (conceptual, logical and physical). Establish/enforce enterprise information architecture standards through the development of data models, Data flow diagrams, CRUD diagrams and specifications for data integrity and referential integrity. Reviews completed data models using data model scorecards to ensure quality and integrity of the models and alignment with institutional goals of developing an enterprise data model and / or information exchange model. 3. Metadata Management: Assist with development of business naming standards, consistent data definitions, data aliases and documenting the business rules of the enterprise. Ensures the business metadata definition of all data attributes and entities are electronically catalogued in the metadata repository and that the data asset metadata is accurate and available to those who need it. Actively participates in the identification of data and solution patterns as well as taxonomies. 4. Enterprise Data Management: Develops policies and procedures for the creation of an Enterprise Data Management Framework and systems interoperability including mapping artifacts to a data architecture framework and managing data/message requirements in an Enterprise Application Integration environment. Assist in the development and enforcement of Data Governance, Data Stewardship and Data Quality standards, policies and procedures. Publish architectural documents - Development/enforcement of procedures to convert enterprise assets to information assets from a Knowledge Management standpoint. ENVIRONMENT/SOFTWARE TOOLS: The institution data repositories supported by the DMAS department accommodates data warehousing, data integration, data management, on-line analytical processing, decision support, reporting, forecasting, and economic modeling of financial, operational, clinical and research information. Client/Server: Data modeling tools Any industry standard enterprise data modeling software; Metadata Management tools; RDBMS -Oracle, Sybase, SQL, MS SQL; SOA infrastructure; Message-level EAI; Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing technologies. PC/Networks: MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Novell NetWare, EDI, HTML, XML, and other Internet technologies. EDUCATION: Bachelors degree with a major in computer science, management information systems, or related field. Required: Ten years of system analysis and design experience with at least seven years of data modeling and enterprise data management experience. Experience in a healthcare industry. Preferred: Knowledge of healthcare data models and standards including HL7, CDISC and caBIG.
