Job Description:
Oracle / Teradata Database Administrator Candidate must be a dynamic
contributor, passionate about database technologies and committed to making a
difference on a team / organization filled with highly technical and creative
members. The Oracle / Teradata DBA will be part of a team responsible for all
functions associated with the implementation, operation, and maintenance of
development, user acceptance testing and production environments using multiple
Oracle products, along with Teradata related products, such as Informatica.
The incumbent will play a key role in the day to day availability of all
environments, problem resolution, technical project management and hands on
involvement in supporting multiple Oracle products, as well as the Teradata
database. The expected split in job functionality is 70% Oracle / 30% Teradata.
The incumbent is also responsible for researching and certifying new database
technologies, conducting database environment assessments, making
recommendations, and executing corrective actions where appropriate.
Candidates must be technically proficient and possess good interpersonal,
troubleshooting, and documentation skills, with a willingness to share
information with fellow members of the DBA and Development Teams.
Specific Responsibilities:
a.. Perform database administration and maintenance functions in support of
production, UAT and development environments
b.. Perform preventive database management, maintenance, and performance
monitoring, tuning, and optimization
c.. Develop trend and analysis reports indicating database growth and load to
anticipate storage, CPU and memory needs; develop maintenance programs and
scripts; migrate databases as necessary; tune SQL and initialization parameters
d.. Automation of routine database administration tasks
e.. Providing assistance to application development staff
f.. Data modeling - Develop physical data models as needed
g.. Develop environment specifications, benchmarking performance scenarios,
and monitoring environments
h.. Conduct regularly scheduled environmental assessments and developing
recommendations and corrective action plans based on the findings
i.. Develop and test backup and disaster recovery plans / scenarios, and
generating required documentation to execute the recovery plan
j.. Maintain / Administer database security components - work with SOX
Administrator, Product Managers, to develop / execute relevant security
policies
k.. Research new products, tools, methodologies, and standards related to all
aspects of the database environment and its security, and make recommendations
l.. Oracle Applications Cloning
m.. RMAN database duplications
n.. Managing Release Migrations
o.. 24x7 OnCall support on a rotational basis
p.. Other duties as assigned
Skills/Requirements:
a.. 7+ years continuous experience as a DBA in an Oracle / UNIX environment
with installations / upgrades of Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g
b.. 5+ years continuous experience as an Oracle Applications DBA performing
installation, upgrades, patching of the Oracle eBussiness Suite, supporting
Financials and CRM modules
c.. 5+ years continuous experience supporting 9i / 10g Oracle Application
Servers, including JSERV / JVM support
d.. Working knowledge of database backup/restore methodologies including:
RMAN, hot and cold backups, export, import, standby, etc.
e.. 5+ years continuous experience with Workflow, Discoverer, Portal, and
Oracle Data Warehouse products
f.. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including verbal and
written communication skills, the ability to work well both individually and
within a team environment, and interacting with both technical and
non-technical individuals
g.. Strong SQL and PL/SQL capabilities, including performance tuning
experience
h.. 1 - 3+ years Teradata experience as a DBA
i.. 1 - 3+ years Informatica experience
j.. Experience with application code repository tools, such as StarTeam, PVCS
k.. Experience with HP Deployment Manager (PPM, Kintana)
l.. Knowledge of different storage platforms such as NAS / SAN, raid levels
m.. Experience with EMC technologies such as Replication Manager, SanCopy,
Snapview
n.. Strong knowledge of logical and physical database design
o.. Ability to work effectively in a demanding and fast-paced environment
p.. Solid Unix shell scripting experience
q.. R12 experience a plus
