 We are currently seeking a senior level Linux Systems Administrator to join 
our team of system administrators in the Information Services and Technology 
(IST) division. The IST Enterprise UNIX Team provides UNIX/Linux server hosting 
for central campus infrastructure and UNIX/Linux systems administration for 
critical campus applications, such as Oracle Database Services, bSpace (SAKAI), 
and Campus Directory Service, as well as several departmental applications. 

Experience with Red Hat Linux Enterprise, Red Hat Cluster Suite, and 
virtualization technologies as well as knowledge of applicable programming 
languages (e.g. Perl) is required. 

Experience with other UNIX/Linux technologies like Solaris, AIX, NIS, LDAP, and 
Kerberos are also helpful. 

Experience implementing SAKAI and/or media streaming services in a RHEL Cluster 
Suite environment would be a plus. 

Job Responsibilities: 

The incumbent will maintain campus mission-critical administrative servers, 
operating systems, technical standards, administrative systems, and security 
for IST server services. The incumbent will develop technical and security 
policies, standards, and guidelines for operating these server infrastructures. 

The incumbent will also provide hardware, operating system, database, and 
application support for mission-critical campus systems used for 
administration, teaching, and research. The incumbent is responsible for 
providing critical infrastructure to support the day-to-day operations of the 
UNIX/Linux-based servers used by IST and campus customers. 

The incumbent will work with management on strategic directions and initiatives 
for the Enterprise UNIX Team. The incumbent will participate with management, 
Technical Account Managers, and clients to plan and develop customer Service 
Level Agreements, Service Catalog listings, and new recharge services for 
campus. 

Specific duties include: 
Proposes and implements highly complex systems monitoring/management 
enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system 
(Nagios, Cacti, cfengine, Puppet, etc.). 
Analyzes, acquires, installs, modifies and supports operating systems, 
databases, utilities and Internet/intranet-related tools. 
Conducts highly complex systems programming and systems support activities, 
including enterprise authentication/authorization system integration. 
Creates and maintains documentation of systems processes and procedures. 
Resolves complex user requests referred by junior administrators. 
Administers security policies to control access to systems. Performs complex 
security control activities to prevent hackers from infiltrating campus 
information. Maintains complex security systems for servers and firewalls. 
Works with customers to identify business requirements and suggests service 
improvements and/or new technology directions. 
Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. May lead a team of 
systems/infrastructure professionals.
