Description:

 

Three qualified candidates will be responsible for the development effort for 
creating a system used to track the progress of students obtaining graduate 
degrees from The University of Georgia, including connectivity to participating 
systems, business process workflows, rules, auditing and reporting 
functionality, working in conjunction with UGA IT and Project Management staff.

Recent, hands-on experience with the Ruby on Rails framework (version 2.3) is 
required as well as a background in data mapping, data transformation, 
directory services (LDAP), and flat-file integration with both authoritative 
source data feeds and down-stream systems. Candidates must have prior 
experience in developing and deploying applications in Ruby on Rails in 
development, test and production environments utilizing the following tools & 
technologies:

Ruby on Rails 2.3, Capistrano, Ruby Gems, Rake, Git, XML, XSLT, LDAP, SOAP, 
REST, RDBMS: i.e., Oracle, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, HTML, RJS Templates, 
JavaScript, AJAX, Prototype, script.aculo.us, Light Box, UNIX/Linux/MacOSX, 
Apache, Phusion Passenger, Rails plug-in architecture

 

The qualified candidates should also be well versed in the following 
disciplines:

  a.. Full life-cycle development processes (design, development, testing, 
deployment) 
  b.. Iterative/Agile Development Methodologies 
  c.. Test-driven Development 
  d.. Unit, Functional, Integration, & Performance Testing 
  e.. Application Security 
  f.. Application Logging 
  g.. Auditing and Reporting 
  h.. Data manipulation including data migration, import/export, data mapping 
and data transformation strategies 
  i.. System Documentation 
 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED: 

 

  a.. Excellent Ruby programming skills 
  b.. Extensive knowledge of the Ruby on Rails framework 
  c.. Deep knowledge of industry standard design patterns/solutions (MVC, IOC, 
ActiveRecord, Single Table Inheritance, etc.) 
  d.. Understanding of LDAP and directory services 
  e.. Experience implementing Role-based Access Control (RBAC) 
  f.. Excellent communication & documentation skills 
  g.. Ability to work under pressure and meet time sensitive milestones
