Title: Platform Engineer Duration: 6mths Location: Palo Alto, CA Platform engineers are rapidly scaling a unique online platform while optimizing performance, efficiency, security, concurrency, data consistency, and data analysis. We develop in Java, Ruby, Javascript, PHP, and C++, and we build on open source platforms such as Jetty and Hadoop. Responsibilities · Develop new Platform services and features to meet the evolving needs of Client social-networks-for-anything killer application while keeping the platform architecture ahead of the growth curve. · Develop new Platform services and features to meet the evolving needs of third-party developers building widgets and applications on the Platform. · Develop the core building blocks of Internet-scale infrastructure as productized frameworks and services. These building blocks should make it easy for other developers at Client to do the right thing for scalability, performance, and manageability while focusing on their domain-specific challenges. · Develop and support a Hadoop-based large-scale data processing infrastructure as a service for business and technical stakeholders across the company. · Work closely with the operations and availability teams to deliver a world-class platform measured in capability, availability, and performance. Qualifications · Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field. · At least 4 years software engineering experience designing and developing modern web-based server solutions in rapid development cycles. · Demonstrated experience building Internet-scale distributed server systems and delivering them into a 24x7, high-availability production environment. · Expert in Java or C++ development and debugging. Expert in Oracle/MySQL databases. You thrive outside the cookie cutter of a traditional application server. Experience in large-scale data processing is a big plus. · Expert in Internet protocols and technologies including HTTP, SSL, DNS, TCP/IP, XML, JSON, and RSS. · Solid understanding and practical experience in Object Oriented Design & Programming, Design Patterns, Software Development life cycle process and procedures. · Curiosity.
