(Call me at 732 333 3219) dir Position: Sr. Sun Solaris Server Engineer Location: Chicago, IL - Locals Preferred! Duration: Long term Rate: ALAP The Sun Solaris Server Engineer position is required for providing Hardware and Operating System support services as well as upgrading and maintaining the Sun Solaris Server Operating System on SPARC platform. This position will be responsible working on several SUN Solaris based efforts to improve the security and robustness of our installed base of servers and applications. Included in these efforts will be development and implementation of Solaris OS Hardening Standards and ongoing process improvements that will maintain the data protection of the environment. The engineer must have expert knowledge of the SUN Solaris 10 Operating System, Solaris Zones, LDOMS, M4000 Hardware, T5200 hardware, Veritas Cluster, and Veritas Foundation Suite in a SAN attached environment. Additionally, must be well versed in TCP/IP Networking and in robust security standards and practices. Other responsibilities include performing critical system administration duties to ensure Operating System and System software is configured and maintained to provide the levels of system availability and integrity specified by the business requirements. This includes researching, testing, and migrating Sun Solaris Server operating system code revisions and critical security patch levels on an ongoing basis. The Engineer is responsible for monitoring system security parameters and managing user accounts to ensure adherence to established policy. Will create and manage file systems to facilitate Database and Software installations and be responsible on a 24x7 basis for responding to and resolving incidents and problems impacting system availability and performance. Capacity planning and system performance and tuning is a key aspect of this position to ensure the service levels are consistently met. Will work closely with DBA's and DB vendor to ensure OS parameters and systems settings are optimized according to technical specifications. Will install and maintain system software and create scripts and jobs to implement and automate system operations procedures as needed. The position requires expert level experience and knowledge of Sun Solaris Server on Sun SPARC T5200 and M4000 hardware and proven experience setting up Solaris Zones, Veritas Foundation Suite, and Veritas clustering in a large SAN & Oracle environment. Experience with IBM Websphere and Vitria is strongly preferred. The initial application is to remediate security vulnerabilities within the Solaris OS and application environment, including ID's and Password standards. Any experience with Security Tools is considered a plus.
