Data Modeling *** is very helpful so that they can understand how to map
the process BUT they will NOT actually do the data modeling.

*Company Job Description:*
Assists in identifying the scope and needs of migrating data from source
systems to target systems and actively gathers detailed business
requirements.
Analyzes, gathers, and documents business requirements.
Converts requirements into comprehensive detailed design specifications
(integration, databases, data flows, transformations, interfaces, reports,
etc.) for solutions.
Documents detailed design specifications (ETL specs, interface specs, etc.)
using appropriate standardized documentation.
Assists in the planning, development, and execution of testing efforts.
Reviews and provides input for data models and reports.  May coordinate or
assist in creating models or developing reports.

*Skills:*
Strong SQL skills to be able to extract data out of databases for analysis,
(can union data together, use the where clause, write sub queries, use
windowing functions, use distinct come to mind)
Strong Excel skills to report on the data analysis Maybe BI tools too to
disseminate information into pretty reports for end users
Able to call meetings, and lead data discussions.  Ie – not afraid to speak
in front of people, offer data suggestions, and can take constructive
criticism
Has basic knowledge of ETL – dimensions, facts, good practices for loading
each
Good data modelling knowledge, able to review business requirements coupled
with data and can model based on both
Attention to detail – able to drill down to individual records to look for
trends, etc
Able to work with different data formats.  Raw data may come to us in many
different forms, and the DA should be able to analyze it regardless of how
it comes in
Able to explain data findings in laymen’s terms.
Experience with Erwin modeling tool
