Job Description PostgreSQL DBA who specializes in performance tuning/data optimization. The position is responsible for making recommendations for tuning queries as well as tuning the Linux based PostgreSQL server. The current system was recently converted from Sybase to PostgreSQL. Roles and Responsibilities - Provides high technical expertise for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and control of the PostgreSQL databases. - Consults with and advises staff DBA’s on database management issues, influencing the PostgreSQL database. - Serves as a consultant on PostgreSQL technological issues. - Provides oversight, mentoring and leadership to less experienced staff. - Perform Database functions based on PostgreSQL databases specializing in performance analysis, tuning and optimization. - Impacting OLTP and DSS mixed workload application performance. - Provide proactive monitoring of the database instances, and take preventive steps to ensure optimal performance. - Provide PostgreSQL best practices for server and SQL performance. - On the spot problem solving for complicated database and performance issues. Requirements - 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL technologies (performance tuning, memory management, SQL tuning, statistics gathering, application audit logs). - 5+ years experience in solid production support background. - In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL 9.X. - In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, to get data for performance issue and give recommendation to resolve issue. - Linux shell scripting experience. - Strong PL/pgSQL programming experience. - Experience with embedded ‘C’ (*.pgc) files. - Experience with PostgreSQL running on various platforms and environments that include SUSE Linux, Virtual Machine (VM) and CentOS Linux. - Excellent Database Administration, Issue Troubleshooting, Performance Analysis and Project Management skills. - Excellent troubleshooting and performance tuning skills. - Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the PostgreSQL database. - Proven ability to troubleshoot and trace data issues throughout the application. - Excellent verbal and written communication. - Must be strong in analyzing how PostgreSQL resources are used during SQL executions. - Ability to write and maintain high quality documentation.
