All this in mind, while iText can be used to convert preformatted text to PDF, a ready-made solution exists in ghostPcl which can convert HP PCL files to many output formats, among them being PDF. DOS-formatted text files (which use the combination of CR-LF characters as a line terminator) are a subset of the HP PCL language so ghostPcl can treat these as simple PCL files. But since this is a school project it probably doesn't matter.
