Im currently evaluating iText for use in a potentially large project where HTML presentation of forms is the main goal. However, we need to be able to convert those forms to PDF for download when necessary.
It seems that using dynamically generated iText XML (by an JSP) for representing the forms with localization and data-bound content and then parsing and converting them to HTML or PDF on the fly would be ideal (possibly through servlet filtering). In essence, iText will be a "light" and really powerful alternative to some rather expensive and complex xForms implementations.
However, the tutorial explicitly says that HtmlWriter should not be used in a production environment :(
Is the tutorial outdated? Is there any ongoing work on the HtmlWriter to improve it?
Has anybody used the HtmlWriter in a similar scenario?
Does other branches such as itext-paulo-108 have better HTML support?
Thanks,
