In case of doubt consult Adobe's pdf reference, it always makes a good
bedside reading.
Unless you just want to place text with Document.add() you need the
reference. Any pdf library requires it and iText is not the worst one.

I love this question. You want a field that would prevent someone from
saving the file? Would that field also work at the OS level when you copy
the file in the command line?
