Posting your change is sufficient.
There's no need to do something 'more official'.

I have only 1 remark: what are you going to do if you have the
need to update iText? Will you always apply this change as a patch?
Maybe it would be better to have a solution where both functionalities
(a shift of 1/3 of the fontsize and a shift of 1 point) exist next
to eachother. That way, it would be easier to update your applications
without having to patch it. As a matter of fact: ease of use and
maintainability is the main reason why the license asks people to
submit there code changes...
