In my application I am using iText to generate simple one-page PDFs. It works great. Now the user has requested a watermark on the document that is not displayed in the Acrobat Viewer (I am using 6.0), but is printed when the user prints the document on a printer.
iText does not support PDF 1.5/Acrobat 6 Optional Content Groups (aka Layers). At this time, there are no shipping tools that do - other than Acrobat itself, though I know of at least one in development.
