Actually, that creates something called a Form XObject which has been a part of the PDF specification since 1.0...

It seems that the Fiery RIP does not like that one Mediabox contains two pages with the same pagesize in some of my sample pdf files written using itext. Acrobat does not care but Fiery crashes on these files. The input files (PDF) *are* printable on the Fiery RIP.
So I guess it could have something to do with how itext does the pageimport ("writer.getImportedPage(PdfReader, pagenumber);") or how these Pages are inserted in a pdf file.
Most PDF input files pass the exactly same process and can be printed without any problems on the Fiery RIP. Something has to be special on the inputfiles that get "broken" when run through my itext based application.

and EFI RIPs dont do it any longer.

I find that hard to believe.

Are you sure that is the problem? Perhaps the issue is something else...

I am not sure. I will have a deeper look into this on monday. Hopefully I know more then.

Best regards,
Carsten
