iText can do 1. For 2 you'll need something else like ghostscript. iText is a java library, not exactly rocket speed. If speed is of paramout importance maybe you should go for Appligent's fdfmerge.

Subject: [iText-questions] fdf merge with pdf

I'd like to find out what the best practice approach would be to accomplish the following for a client of ours.  1st a little background.  We use adobe V6 to markup pdf documents.  In many cases these pdf documents are originally paper scanned to tiff and converted to pdf.  The annotations are stored in 1 or more .fdf files.  Now for the 2 functions,
        1.  Merge the .fdf and pdf files and then save them as .pdf to be sent to the client(s)
        2.  Convert the merged file back to tiff for a specifc client.

We would be interested in developing this solution or purchasing an existing product that accomplishes this.  Performance is an issue as there may be as many as 50,000 documents to be converted for each client and will be repeated on a scheduled basis..

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.....
