are there any problems to expect using XObjects using some RIPs? I had this question some time ago using some Fiery RIPs and after some time they fixed some bugs in their software and new Fierys now work.
But now I again have problems on a different RIP based on Adobes PDFLib (using Paulos itext 1.35; PdfContentByte.addTemplate(page,...)). I wonder what causes these problems.
Adobes PDFwriter is not able to write out these files.
The error log is:
%%[Page: 1]%% %%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: flushfile ]%%
Stack: -file- -file- -file- -file- -save-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Or if another time put through itext:
%%[ Error: limitcheck; OffendingCommand: gsave ]%%
Stack: -save-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
I wonder if it has something to do with the kyrillic or chinese fonts used in these files.
Perhaps somebody can answer some of my questions:
The error log looks like a Postscript VM error message. Does the PDFWriter internally convert to Postscript?
Does the PDFWriter internally insert postscript "save" commands using XObjects and could this lead to problems using large fonts?
The preflight doesnt discover any serious problems. I am not going to use PDFWriter for serious work - only for getting an idea of the problem.
thanks in advance,
Carsten Hammer
