There are lots of variables:

- just because you have a big machine it doesn't mean that all the 
processors/memory will be assigned to java

- how the java program is written

- where does it get the data from

If you want a performance answer based on what you can't quantify you may also 
throw a dice and be happy with the result. You have to measure to get sensible 
results and yes, it takes time and work. That's called evaluation.

A 2G/512M PC with one processor produces 5 docs per second. Each doc has 4 
pages and it includes fetching the data from an Oracle database that resides in 
the same machine.
