So you have generated a document which shows a String document.getVersion() and they both show the same version number. You have also checked that the afm files are available in both jars (test and production). Then the only thing I can think of is a (security?) problem with the ClassLoader that prevents loading the resources. I have never heard of such problems before in the context of CF.
