OK...that solves one problem.
The second problem then is HOW the PDF will be sent to the
printer - as many methods of printing PDFs will strip/ignore embedded
Postscript.

Yes, but I don't believe that there are high level
primitives for it. You'll need to use the low level APIs, after a
read of the PDF Reference, to do it.
