These pages are under construction, but I already
added the screenshots to show how to obtain a *.p12
file from CAcert:
http://itextdocs.lowagie.com/security/cacert.php

On Windows, you can import the *.p12 file by double
clicking it, then export a *.cer file for instance
through options in MSIE.

I use openssl to create a *.pem file:
openssl pkcs12 -in foobar.p12 -out foobar.pem -clcerts -nokeys

Then I open the pem file in a text editor,
delete everything before -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
and rename it to foobar.cer

This is the file I use for certificate encryption with iText.
