That may turn out to be very difficult if you choose to add
a watermark. If you want to retrieve the 'hidden' data, why
not use an annotation? Or why not add the ID as metadata?

I think the question "how to add a watermark?" is irrelevant
for the requirement "how to add an invisible ID to a PDF
file that can be retrieved afterwards?"

Please give it another thought before you start coding.
