with missing glyphs was probably not with Arial or Times New
Roman, but it could explain why you remember more support for
international fonts in other Windows versions.

Ok, for the US version, is there any standard font that has all of CJK in it?

I'm not an expert, so I don't know if it has everything you
need, but do you have arialuni.ttf?
Also if you have a Windows CD, normally you'll be able to
extract some TTC files from it. Those aren't installed by
default because they have a large file size, but normally
they should be on the CD. If you search through the MS KB,
you should be able to find which languages they support
(Chinese, Japanese, Korean, but also Hindi, Thai,...).
