Hi,

I am keen to find a PDF generator class which I can implement in a new Google Android mobile phone App which I am writing.

Would iText for Java fit ?

I know that a Dutch company has used iText to work
on a mobile device in the context of an SAP project.
I have no experience with mobile devices myself.

I know that Android has a few unique class libraries, method calls, and does not include the full Java SDK !

If not, are you considering working on a development of it for Android ?

I know that Google is using iText in many different
applications: Google Calendar, Spreadsheets, Analytics,...

Unfortunately Google hasn't shown any interest in supporting
iText financially. More specifically: Chris Di Bona turned
down a demand to sponsor the iText project financially;
which is a pity, because IMHO this shows that Google is not
interested in being "a good F/OSS citizen". (That's my personal
opinion; it may not be the way all iText developers see it.)

I am building an application on the Android SDK within Eclipse which requires the ability to receive text data and JPEG images to be combined via an xml template and output as a PDF format file.

Development for Google Android is not on the agenda.
However, we would welcome it if Google would fund further
iText development for use in combination with Google Android.

I'm sorry if this response sounds strange and bitter, but
let's say I'm rather disappointed by the fact Google didn't
return any substantial favors for using iText.

I know that they can use iText for free (it's not as if I
can /demand/ anything from Google), but given the extent
to which they use the product, and given the fact that
they actually have the money, I'd expected that they'd at
least sponsor iText for using the software.

best regards,
Bruno
