hello
prolog:
we use since 2003 a product (rreport from java4less.com) with which we
programmatically generate pdf-files from within a server-based
java-web-application (struts). the product uses itext.
the clients get the pdf-stream within the browser. all is perfect.
shortly we recognized a strange behavior: client with acrobat/reader 7
or 8 get a (visible and hard-printed) square-symbol at the end of each
line in a multiline-text-field. this does not happen with clients using
acrobat/reader 6 or lower.
there is nothing changed elsewhere, just acrobat-version on client is newer.
adobe-support says: does not interest "us". pdf is not produced by "us".
- we tried a newer version of itext.jar. same result.
- we removed the corresponding font on the server (tahoma.ttf /which
originates from a windows-2000-os-version). rreport uses then (according
to log) another default font ("loading times by default"). the square at
the line-end disappears. problem solved, but the font is not the font
customers uses/wants.
- we replace the fonts on the server by newer ones (win vista): square
is again here
question:
do you have any idea, where the kernel of the problem might be lieing?
thank you
