Depends on your certificate.

In the future, there may be other options - but for Acrobat 8.x, this is the only one.

YOU may consider it trusted, but you have not in any way designed it to Acrobat/Reader - so it doesn't know that.

Self-signing the document AND then distributing that signature to all users and marking it as trusted will indeed work.
