The book will always remain the best introduction to iText
for new iText users. The new functionality is either highly
specialized (and not really suited for a book revision), or
it builds upon the concepts that are explained in the book:
for instance: OCG is explained in detail for document creation;
not for document manipulation. The new release will support
OCG in PdfStamper too, but all the methods to create and use
the different OCG layers will be exactly as described in the book.
(There were no significant changes to the PdfLayer class, I only
added a package protected method that is for internal use only.)

version?

I'm slowly beginning to think about a revision because I've
written a completely new set of examples I'm using when I teach
iText (I've given a one-day course once, another one-day course
is ordered, but not yet scheduled). It could happen that this
new set of examples leads to a second book (I don't know; writing
a book is a huge effort) but if that happens, it won't be a
revision (I hate revisions, so boring). It will be a completely
different book, approaching iText from a different angle (more
classroom style) and I'll refer to the first book that will still
be valuable as a reference. For instance: I use chapter 10 many
times as a reference for when I need some graphics operator, but
I think it would be overkill to cover all those operators in
such detail as I have done in "iText in Action" if I ever write
a second book. ("iText in Action" is 650+ pages and that was an
absolute maximum for the publisher. The next book should be at
most 500 pages.)

br,
Bruno
