There's been a lot of talk in the Spatial & GIS communities about GeoPDF.

Adobe have also announced native support for Viewing and interaction with
maps in version 9
(http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatproextended/ - Section 1.5)
I'm not 100% sure if these two features would be configured in the same way
on the PDF document.
I'm currently using iText to generate PDF documents from Spatial data and it
works great !
What I'm wondering is will there be support coming in iText for either (or
both) of these new capabilities ?
At a raw file level I doubt theres much more than encoding a bounding box
(spatial extent) that the data occupies into the file.
