Right. Not exactly nice-n-easy, then? Can I submit it as a feature request? I've been investigating PDFNet by pdftron, and they've managed to make it part of their API (get the image 2D matrix and get co-ordinates for the 4 corners of the image and the horizontal and vertical start points), which was really useful.
