If you just want the PCL, which as Leonard said, will lose a lot of the
objects/parts of the PDF and reduce it to a presentation of the document
suitable for printing, then you could leverage an existing printer-driver and
"print to file" en masse. Shouldn't be that hard to write your code to send
the files one after another to the print-queue, which then deposits the output
in some recognizable location.

If there's no direct translations (from the sounds of it, there really
isn't), then we need to use Apache's FOP to send the pdf where we want it
anyways. (basically, we're in a closed network, using a web app to
automatically print to a certain location)

good point, if I tell you its a relatively simple template, will that make
it better?

(I know its a bandaid for a headwound, but we only have 3 weeks for
development.)

So what will you do with the MANY parts of PDF that can't be represented
in PCL?

In order for our application to work using existing architecture, we
have to use PCL. (Unfortunately)

Bear in mind, I don't know as much about printing as I probably should,
and so maybe I just made my self look dumb right there.

What do you need PCL for? Direct printing of PDF?

Wouldn't it make more sense to simply use a component designed for
          printing PDF?
