iText has been known to create documents with 100,000 pages. Personally, 
I'm making documents for Ghent University. Usually these documents have 
one page per student. We have 30,000+ students, so it's very common for 
me to make PDFs with 30,000+ pages.

Some of my documents are provided through a Servlet.
In some cases, this can cause a browser time-out.

If you don't use iText correctly, you can also easily have memory 
issues; I don't know about BFO, but iText was designed for web 
appplications. As soon as a page is finished, we try sending the 
complete page to the OutputStream so that it's not kept in memory.
