You've already answered your own question....
The alternative is simply for you to distribute your certificate to users who
can then install it into their certificate store and recognize you.

Subject: [iText-questions] digitally signed pdf and Acrobat
Following the instructions on this page:
http://itextpdf.sourceforge.net/howtosign.html#signextdicattrib, I am able to
successfully digitally sign a PDF. That's awesome, but when I open the PDF in
Acrobat it tells me that "The validity of the document certification is
UNKNOWN. The author could not be verified."
The question then is, what kind of certificate do I need to use in order for
Acrobat to verify the signature? I'm currently using a certificate from
GoDaddy, but I'm guessing that I'll need to use a certificate issued by one of
Adobe's CDS's listed here: http://www.adobe.com/security/partners_cds.html.
Any help, or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Keep up the good work with iText. Thanks.
Evan
