Michael,
thanks for your comments.
As the ETSI references you've been given show, the restrictions on
the byte
range aren't mere recommendations as soon as you're into andvanced
electronic signatures, they are hard rules.
I understand the need for these rules, I was wrong when I called them
"recommendations".
What I wanted to say is that the rules could be changed, if someone
can find a good rationale ..
Just about one comment I don't agree:
Parallel signatures in the PDF context are realized using serial
signatures,
an acceptable solution as long as the document isn't to be signed
sumultaneously at the same time by different persons.
I call these kind of signatures just "multiple signatures". Users are
forced to sign in a strictly sequential way. In other words the 1st
signer should pass the doc. to the 2nd signer, then he should pass the
document to the 3rd signer ...
In a "parallel-signature" workflow all the signers have a copy of the
same doc and they can even sign simultaneously. They shouldn't wait
for other signers. After signing a doc, it must be sent to a collector
whose task is to join (merge) the signatures, and then publish or
redistribute the final doc.
....
No, you can also write an appropriate Acrobat plugin for your special
signatures and distribute among those who intend to respect this
special
kind of signatures.
This is the big problem ... I could create an Acrobat plugin (or
simply a tool) to be distributed to the signers and to the collector,
but what I'd like to get is that *everyone* should be able to open and
validate the final pdf. This is the reason of my interest about the
validation method used by Acrobat Reader. Acrobat is de-facto THE
universal validator.
Probably my solution is not acceptable, but I have no idea of other
studies/works about this problem. May you keep me informed about works
on this subject ?
Thanks,
Aldo
