Of course - you can have as many colors as you want (provided they are all in 
the same colorspace).

You will definitely need to read the PDF Reference/ISO 32000-1 in order to 
understand how to encode such things, since it is more complex than a simple 
gradiants.

I'm trying to export some complicated vector graphics -- including  
gradients with multiple colors -- through iText's Graphics2D.

My first questions are:
1.  Is this technically possible in PDF's?
2.  If I study the code for how GradientPaints are processed (which  
use only 2 colors): is it theoretically possible to use existing iText- 
related objects to achieve this?  The PdfShading and PdfShadingPattern  
look promising, but the javadocs are bare.  I thought I'd ask the list  
before I explore further.
