You gave me the answer yourself: you said the UNICODE value was \u00a5,
so I changed a Hello World example like this:

document.add(new Paragraph("Japanese path separator: \u00a5", font));

Of course, this will only work if the font knows the \u00a5 character,
but that goes without saying (I used arialuni.ttf).
