You should be aware that especially in server contexts use of temporary
files instead of memory is quite an advantage as soon as you have to
consider scalability. Attempting not to use them is IMO understandable only
if there are restrictions to that effect of the existing environment. And in
that case these server restrictions had better be worked on.

If you read files from a CM repository, no one else but you needs to write
temp files on the server, do they? Paths which might differ after migration
should be configurable after all. Requirements of your application should be
documented; thus, any migration project should be aware of them.
