Hello,

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question...

Here is what I am trying to do. I have a folder of journal articles (in pdf
format) that have been downloaded (legally) for research. What am I trying
to do is to write a little java app that will go through each article and
extract the digital object identifier (doi) number from the article. I am
running into problems trying to even open a secured pdf. I know that I can
manually open the secured pdf and select the necessary text and then copy
and paste it. The goal of the application is to create an endNote library
to manage the folder of articles, in order to do this I would need to start
with a list of doi's.

I would like to know if it is feasible to just open a secured pdf, with
permissions such that I do not make any changes to the pdf, and only extract
that line of information out. I know that you have
http://1t3xt.info/tutorials/faq.php?branch=faq.itext&node=password on the
FAQ. I was wondering if there was another method besides PdfCopy that will
do what I need to do. If that is the case, I will happily go out to
purchase your book. I just don't want to buy the book and then still not be
able to do what I am trying to do. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Sophia
