It sounds like someone built the jar Incorrectly. You can download one with
all the requisite files at http://sourceforge.net/projects/itext/, or get the
source there and use ANT to build it yourself.

Subject: [iText-questions] Helvetica not found as resource - iText-2.1.4 Jar
Hello,
I am using iText-2.1.4.jar for stamping PDF files with data. My environment is
a Linux platform. I get the following error:
com.lowagie.text.DocumentException: Helvetica not found as resource. (The *.afm
files must exist as resources in the package com.lowagie.text.pdf.fonts)
Any help in this matter would be appreciated? I have tried reading posts on
this issue, but could not find a definitive answer.
Regards,
