Yes it is. You can't "remove" the content outside the crop box.
You can only hide it.

outside the crop box, nobody will be able to help you.

Note that NO IMAGE is created. Only an Image object wrapping the page. 
In PDF terms: you're NOT creating an Image XObject, you're creating a 
Form XObject. If this explanation is Chinese to you, please read 
ISO-32000-1.
